About Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows, or just "Windows" for short, is the brand name for an entire range of graphical interfaces for the home PC, business and server environment. Originating as an add-on to MS-DOS in 1985, there are now at least 10 different versions of Windows, many with separate "editions" for different uses. Windows dominates the OS market.

I like Windows because of its simplicity and ease of use. There's nothing like being able to plug something in or turn something on and have it work straight away (one of the downsides of Linux-based OSes). Despite being reputed as unstable and insecure, I've used at least one edition of every version from Windows 3.1 and had no problems yet. Booting into Windows every morning is a hard habit to break.

Why Gooey?

"Gooey" is how a lot of people say "GUI" — the abbreviation for Graphical User Interface, which is exactly what the Windows operating systems are. It's a play on words :)
